Bats-Toi is a sports technology startup which is developing wearable safety gear for wrestlers to protect their heads during matches and prevent injuries and concussions. It was founded by Mario Mercado in 2012. Based in New York the company is ranked 8th amongst its 21 peers. Mercado the first product of Batstoi is a wearable headgear and has been in development for four years. The technology is still awaiting multiple patents. The helmet is the first wrestling headgear that will actually cover and help protect a wearer’s head.
Batstoi wanted to build a better product that protects the head. They continuously researched to improve, create, engineer and design the best head protection gear for athletes of all levels. The Mercado was born out of this commitment and they are now partnering with ABCorp to manufacture the Mercado using 3D printing technology.
The Mercado is the most advanced multisport headgear on the market, using 3D printing technology. It was initially designed to protect wrestlers against head injuries now evolving into a next-generation smart multisport headgear capable of incorporating diagnostic sensors to monitor brain wave activity and two-way communication to provide a combination of safety and performance enhancement which was previously unavailable.
“From day one, our focus and purpose at BATS-TOI has been to revolutionize head safety for serious and recreational athletes through innovative design and engineering,” said Mario Mercado, founder and CEO of BATS-TOI. He also said, “ We worked with our partners at HP and ABCorp to develop a groundbreaking system and process to 3D print The Mercado at scale, as a best-in-class multisport headgear that provides superior protection and performance against head injuries. The Mercado has been recognized as the official wrestling headgear of the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS), and our partnership with ABCorp will ensure we deliver on our commitment to the highest quality standards, not only for wrestlers but for all athletes that need superior head protection to keep them in the game.”
Powered by the HP MJF Systems for 3D printing, ABCorp will manufacture the Mercado in their state-of-the-art facility with unparalleled speed and accuracy. ABCorp has design and high-volume production capacity under a single roof, with the flexibility of multiple base materials including polymers and stainless steel. To ensure the confidentiality of sensitive products all production will take place in a highly secure FDA-registered facility with HiTrust certification and HIPPA compliance.
BATS-TOI and ABCorp are plunging into the domain of neuro devices similar to Elon Musk’s Neuralink. ABCorp’s long history of working with the U.S. government and its expertise in security gives us confidence that this project will be taken to another level. The Mercado will hopefully be a device that would be used to optimize athletic performance along with safety. Regardless of how the device ultimately works, there’s no doubt that it is helping to usher in a brave new world.
