Kerala Startup Mission to establish 50 fabrication labs

Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) is planning to establish 50 fabrication labs at various technical colleges in Kerala to train students to design and manufacture any product using advanced manufacturing machines. KSUM CEO, Jayasankar Prasad said 20 fabrication laboratories will start functioning by the end of February, this year (2017) and work order for the remaining 30 laboratories has been given. “KSUM has earmarked Rs. 10 crore for the project which will be a fabricating platform enabling students to come forward and develop their ideas in the lab. The training for teachers at the colleges has been completed and once the installation is completed, students can utilize this facility”, Jayasankar Prasad said. Read more on Kerala

“The maker culture should benefit the common man and technology should meet with art for achieving the goal. In the days to come, people can design and manufacture any product using advanced manufacturing machines, linked to a computer”, Jayasankar Prasad added.

It is essential that technology reaches the common man. The common man should have access to high quality manufactured products for his daily use. If the teachers of the various technical colleges in Kerala are given training on the machine, which can manufacture high quality products and they pass on their knowledge to students, it won’t be long before India is full of high quality manufactured products which benefit the common man. India may even become renowned for high quality products. The common man will find the high – quality products very useful in his daily life. It will make the lives of the people of India that much easier. It is heartening to see an Indian state like Kerala take a sizable step in this regard.
